Lord, Protect My Child

"For his age, he’s wise
He’s got his mother’s eyes
There’s gladness in his heart
He’s young and he’s wild
My only prayer is, if I can’t be there
Lord, protect my child

As his youth now unfolds
He is centuries old
Just to see him at play makes me smile
No matter what happens to me
No matter what my destiny
Lord, protect my child

The whole world is asleep
You can look at it and weep
Few things you find are worthwhile
And though I don’t ask for much
No material things to touch
Lord, protect my child

He’s young and on fire
Full of hope and desire
In a world that’s been raped and defiled
If I fall along the way
And can’t see another day
Lord, protect my child

There’ll be a time I hear tell
When all will be well
When God and man will be reconciled
But until men lose their chains
And righteousness reigns
Lord, protect my child"

Catch Up

It has been a busy Spring! Lots of sunshine, a little bit of snow. Friends, projects, new skills, and of course, dirt... all the things that keep kids happy.

(My "command center"project)

(My jewelry display project)

(Garlic, celery, peppers)

We decorated easter eggs with crayons this year. A fun alternative to dip n' dye!

Noa woke up that morning singing, "Do you wanna build a snowman?". How could he resist?

Noa is so proud of her latest skill - she has learned to tie her shoelaces!

Emmett's 1st Birthday

Happy birthday to our sweet Emmett. Messy Boy is his latest, sister-given name. Emmett the James, Little Handsome, and Buddy are a few other noms de guerre. As a friend recently pointed out, he is a bonafide 3rd child. He is never at a loss for visual entertainment, is never alone, can sleep through the loudest shrieks of sibling rivalry, and already knows how to make silly faces (he's got two of the silliest sisters ever to keep up with).

Emmett: Eng. "whole, complete"
James: Heb.; variant of Jacob, "supplanter, one who replaces"
Born February 8, 2013, 15:30
Weighed 8 lbs, 4 oz

I'm sure his younger sister would agree with his namesake - he has done the duty of a youngest child and supplanted her place as the baby in charming fashion (not to worry though, she is loudly proclaiming her middle-child rights). Emmett has become our strong boy, completely beautiful, and a blessed addition to our little family.

Happy birthday, Emmett James!

So many reasons to be thankful right now...

I live with a man who saw me, sought me, chose me, and chooses to love me. This is God's grace.

I bore a daughter and we named her Noa. She is healthy, vibrant, beautiful, and she knows Christ. This is God's grace.

I bore another daughter, and we named her Bryn. She is lovely all over, and she is strong. Her ears have heard of the goodness of the Lord. This is God's grace.

I bore a son, and we named him Emmett. He makes us all smile every day, and we laugh with joy just to hold him. He has a thick head and is quickly learning how to maneuver steps. This makes us happy. :) This is God's grace.

We have a brother and sisters all over the country. We are lifted up by Mothers and Fathers and Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and friends that know us well enough to love us honestly. This is God's grace.

We have this beautiful Fall season to enjoy, warm drinks to stir, and yummy, yummy dishes to bake. Above all, we have an eternity to share. This is God's grace.

"And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me [Paul], practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you."

Where Did the Summer Go?

What a beautiful glorious thing... a season. They say that familiarity breeds contempt. If Summer went on and on, perhaps I would grow tired of it. Or maybe it would turn ordinary. Nonetheless, it is gone and I need not contemplate it anymore. Here now is Fall - warm and crisp and windy. Burnt orange and gold and pumpkin and spice. I plan on baking and cooking and tasting and feeling all the lovely things of this season. Kissing and smelling and snuggling and learning. Join with me, will you?

"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." Phil 4:8
