About those plans...

So, as it turns out, my plans were more like wishful thinking. Alas, our sweet baby boy decided to arrive two weeks earlier than his due date... and I'm entirely grateful for the mysterious timing of it all. :)

My labor began spontaneously Thursday night, and by 3:30pm Friday, he was out! The amazing(ly different) thing about this labor experience was that it was virtually painless until I was ready to push him out! I knew I was having contractions, and had been for many hours, but they were so mild that I thought my progression had stalled in the hospital. When my doctor cheerily popped in to check my status, we were all shocked to here that I was dilated to 9cm! To anyone inexperienced with labor, I have been screaming bloody murder at this point in previous births. Here is a fun picture that Josh took of me right about this point...

Shortly after that, though, the bliss ended and the seemingly necessary pain of childbirth was exacted. Ha.

Beautiful boy, Emmett James was born February 8, and weighed 8lbs, 4oz. He was healthy, and we were ecstatic. A generous friend of ours gave up her day to come watch the girls at our house while we were away. Josh was able to go back home Friday afternoon and bring the girls to the hospital to meet baby brother. They were wonderful company and their smiles were a perfect ending to a merciful day.

Thank you all for prayers you have said on our part, and for all the kind words and generous acts. They have carried us through the storm in every instance.

And without further ado... Master Emmett (and company):

So glad your birth was great! That is the perfect way to welcome your first son. And the girls are precious with him. :)
